"If you look at the websight from last years race almost all your questions will be answered. Each event, including the finals, is a one day event. We actually based last years series off of the RC PRO Series system so there won't be many changes. Here's the basics:
1. There are a total of 8 races. 7 “qualifying” races (Dec. 16th - Feb. 10th) and one “final event” race (Mar. 3rd).
2. Each racer will use their 4 highest point totals from the first 7 rounds. (up to 3 throw outs are allowed)
3. After the first 7 rounds are complete and all the points are calculated, the top 6 racers in each class will automatically advance to the A-main at the Finals. Starting positions on the A-main grid for the top 6 racers will be determined by their positions in the standings.
4. For all other racers attending the finals, there will be 2 qualifying rounds for the remaining A-main positions and all subsequent mains (B, C, D, etc.).
5. All mains B or lower at all races will bump up the top 2 finishers into the next main.
6. All points earned at the Finals are worth 1.5 times normal.
7. The overall finishing positions of the point series will be determined by taking each racers point total from the first 7 races (using the top 4 totals) and adding that total to points earned at the finals.
You can see last years point series at:

I dig the way they scheduled the races so close to each other...and 7 prelim's!!! Damn, thats alot of racing!
In the NorCal series, there was a month or more between races and only 3 prelim's...I hope they do it different for '07

Which class did you run? How many cars in the class? Now that you have a truggy, are you going to run the truggy class too?
Gremlins are the worst!!! Are you using cast knuckles or CNC?
I had some major issues when I changed cars and classes in the middle of the season...but I have them all worked out now, and Im ready for the coming season.

I ran in 1/8 Sportsman there was about 40 entires. There was 110-120 entries total. I'm just going to stick with my buggy for the series and focus on that.
I'm running the KHZ CNC knuckles.

And the famous Mr. Kenny Brosh recap...
Well after rolling out of bed at 3PM I've pretty much done nothing but think warm nitro pit thoughts of yesterday. I rolled in at about 9:15AM and the place just looked tight! Mike had worked his butt off, painting everything you could see and it really cleaned the place up. Lot's of room now for some sweet painted logos. Maybe Joey will bring his paint brush when he comes out in January! So for the first hour yesterday all I kept saying was, "This place is unbelievable", now remember I've been there about 100 times in the past 2 months! From the quarter minus in the pit areas to the monitor mounted in the wall under the timers tower, the place was ready!
Right about time that entries were under way, the show was about to begin. Every R/C track needs certain items to have a successfull opening day. For instance, you really should have Traffic safety cones on hand to identify marshalling areas. Another must have item would be a helicopter, so that your past state champions could go for a scenic ride over the Speedworld complex. Thanks to Ross, some of us lucky ones also got the experience of a lifetime! For the first 15 seconds I thought I was going to die. Then I was ok for the majority of the flight, then again I thought there was a good chance I could fall out of the sky during landing. When we were coming in, about 100 feet up, I saw all of the cars running practice on the track! That was way cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With signups done and heats printed out, we were ready to tackle the task of running 115 racers through 20 qualifier races and another 9 mains! Can't believe I just typed that! We had 115 entries in the opening day or the R/C Pro Arizona Super Series and that's 30 more than our biggest day at Hobby Action. With no organized racing in this town for 5 months I don't know how we built numbers but we did!
Before I go into qualifying, let me take you for a lap on this 1180' track. Track is 200' right to left and 125' front to back. Over the past 14 months we've asked for feedback from everyone on everything from ideal track dimensions to height of drivers stand. We hoped to build the perfect Nitro R/C facility and as such we tried not to forget a single thing. For instance, who likes to feel a .21 motor vibrate the screws out of your buggy because the pit wall is concrete or even wood? So we put 2x6's on top of pit wall, then ran two rows of rubber hose down the board, to absorb the vibration. Of course the hose was mounted so that you can see the Goodyear logo; no need to purchase hose and bury the logo right. lol I'll try to hit on a few of the track amenities: Covered drivers stand, 40' long with double back ramp to lower the incline angle. Wheel chair drivers positioned perfectly in middle, safety bar for when not in use. Timers tower with all the comforts of home. 70 volt line PA system, 12 speakers, only 6 in use up to this point. Watering system with 17 sprinkler heads and 10 hose bibs. 4' wide pit lane, double counter attached to the drivers stand for staging and vehicle start up. 21 1000 watt light fixtures on 4 poles. Limitless room for rv parking as well as racer and spectator parking. 21 pit tables, (some for standing and some for sitting), with more to come before the Nitro Challenge!. Functional traffic light for down and quiet starts, (Thanks Frenchy and Casey). Computer monitor under the timers tower so that pit people can check the real time race status just like what the race director sees! Track air compressor, beautiful views, helicopter rides.............am I missing anything? Oh yea, 3 water trucks, bulldozer, gannon tractor, DITCH WITCH, Boom truck (all provided by Speedworld) THank you Speedworld!!!!!!!!!
Take a look at a track picture and follow along. Loop is right in front of the timers tower. Left to right over two big rollers that tend to make even a 4 wheel drive vehicle wheelie. Gain elevation at end of front straight and hit breaks for a 180 degree turn, over a small roller before the big front side double. The key here is not going so fast over the roller that you get too much air, or you won't have enough set up time for the double. After the big double you either cartwheel 14 times like Dominick ;-), or turn right and step up onto an elevated table top. The table has a lip so you don't want to hit that with too much speed or you'll flat land in the middle of the next right hand turn. Left to right on the short shute into a medium sweeper to the right with an elevated end to it, back through a s or chicane section and a small sweeper to the roller section. Three jumps in a row here and they make you think. The first is a roller that is easy, but it's so easy that you could hit the next one too fast, The second one has very steep edges to in and it's difficult to downside perfectly and keep the car stable, now the third is an easy roller again and make you want to pull throttle up to the next rhythm section on the far right side of the track. This section can be either a double double with little throttle, a tripple single, or a full out quad. The really cool thing about this next corner is that the whole berm is elevated so that you jump up onto the turn! How sweet is that? Now right to left down the 185' straight into another big berm turn. The lane width here is 20' so there's plenty of room to manuver and find that perfect line. Some were going tight, some mid, and some used the high bank to slingshot themselves over the huge 40' table top. It tapers gradually so no matter how far you want to fly you'll have a soft landing. Now you're at the front left side of the track and you hand another 180 degree turn to the largest rhythm section on the track, a big double tripple that covers probably 70 feet with some big air over the tripple. Now once you get past that section its a flat roadcourse feel right up to a kink where the whoop section starts it's a washboard but one for like um.....King kong or that big guy who owned Babe the blue ox........... These things will hit you hard if you take em too fast. Only saw one person sucessfully jump the section into a loooooonnnnnggg double and he ended up off the track when he did it. Nice show Paul! So if you're the leader and you have a 4 second lead coming down to the finish line you probably go slow so that you don't wreck, then you feel the heat because the guy in second has nothing to loose so he starts into the section a bit faster trying to catch you. He's coming up within 5 feet of you as you just donkey kick all over the place and it's a crap shoot if he goes wing over nose or does a complete summersault lands on his wheels and beats you by 2 tenths of a second> So yes you could say I like the layout!
Let's start with the biggest class of the day, Sportsman Buggy. There were over 40 entries in sportsman buggy when the day began and even as I saw that number for the first time, all I could think of was all the races I've run where 20 total entries for the day was a damn good day! This class was running not only for valuable series points but for an additional prize as well. Nomadio, without us asking them, offered the winner of sportsman buggy on day one of the series their choice of a brand new sensor or react radio! Maybe that's why we had 40 + entries. lol One of the great things about yesterday was seeing faces that raced with us years ago, but that we haven't seen for awhile. Guys like, Boe Bergeson, Tom Calo, Mike Van Osten, Mike Myers, Jesse Dunham, Brian Cowherd, and Mike Rabenow just to name a few. It feels so awesome to give guys like that a place to race again! In round one it was the Mike and Mike show as Mike VanOsten and Mike Hoffman went first and second quick in the IFMAR style qualifying format. In round 2 Boe Burgeson was on a real quick pace but fell off late and couldn't grab that tq from Mike Van Osten. Check out race 5 in round 2: Brian Cowherd threw down with his Losi eight but ended up one 100th of a second out of the tq spot. That's close! So Mike Van Osten took honors of tq and the bonus points into the A main.

C Main During introductions I picked out two drivers to watch and they eventually did take the bump ups to the B main with the first place finish going to Michael Noto and 2nd to Greg Cochran. Some names to look out for in the future from this main,! 15 car field in the sportsman b main with all drivers looking for those 2 transfer positions. Within 20 seconds of the start tone, Tanner Stees or Tan Man put his Jammin ride in first place and never looked back. He won going away and was the only driver to go 12 laps in the B main. Our two bumps from the C main were again right together on the track for this one and it came down to the last laps. Cochran was in the 2nd position for most the race but Noto kept running at him and falling back. Greg did get that 2nd place finish and the transfer to the A main but the battle getting there was worth the price of admission (If there was admission). A Main Our TQ went out early in this one and quickly it was the Brett Crane Nomadio machine, who took the lead and held it for the entire race. In one of the best battles of the night, Brian Cowherd was right on the wing of Brett for much of the race but just didn't have enough to get by for good. One of the top three surprises of the day for me was the guy who finished 3rd, Gabe Boudoin from Tucson. I don't know what they're putting in the drinking water down there but it's breeding some good fricking drivers! Gabe was solid all day and when you figure in the fact that he's never driven a big track like the Nitro Pit, it's exciting to think about his skill 2 months from now! T. Ford and Mike Hoffman rounded out the top five but look through the entire field and you'll see familliar names! Great job Sportsman Buggy Drivers! Loved watching you guys tear it up and congratulations to Brett on the win and New Nomadio radio!
One more class recap before I head off to bed. Meeting the fence guy early tomorrow and any of you that know me well, know I'm not a morning person.
Let's talk pro caliber drivers, Expert 1/8th scale Buggy This class was a real treat to watch as 80% of this class is real professionals on and off the track. They make driving look so easy that people new to R/C who stop by to watch think, "Hey, that doesn't look too hard". Round one saw www.racefactorindustries.com (http://www.racefactorindustries.com/) owner Russell Jones, put his brand new GO powered xray buggy in the #1 slot with a 8 lap 6 minute 36 second performance. Did I mention that Losi took the top three spots in Sportsman buggy? Well I just did! Anyway, It was Russell, Trevor Clement, Luke Jonas, and Casey Peck going 8 laps in round one. In round 2, Ryan Maifield, Toby RObinson, Billy Fischer (Hit the track cold), Josh Nelson, and Ricky Gaynor joined the 8 lapper club. Current National Champion and AZ Point series expert buggy champion Ryan Maifield took tq with a blistering 8 laps in just 6 minutes and 22 seconds. The expert class had some multi state flavor with lots of guys coming from other states to race, as well as racers from all across Arizona. Was good to see Troy Sears again! Thanks to Dylan and Donnie Rodriguez, Toby Robinson, Jason Ayers and anyone else that made the trip! In the B main a couple guys came from back of the pack (19th and 20th in qualifying), to grab the two transfer positions. Dylan Rodriguez and Mac Mitchell ran clean and up through the field early and held onto those spots to transfer into the A Main. Quite a list of top notch drivers in that A main and it proved to be a driving clinic. Maifield got shuffled back early to 6th but made his was back to the lead by lap 7. It was a unbelievable battle between the two losi eight's and Maifields Jammin X1CR, with Maifield, Peck, and Fischer right together on the track. Several laps later, Maifield ran out of fuel after the big table top with a 25 second lead. Maifield's troubles put him back to 5th place and he was only able to recover 1 spot up for a 4th place finish. At this point when Ryan was off the track, Casey Peck just put it out front and drove like the guy he normally pits with at those big out of state races, (Now in state as well http://rctech.net/forum/classic_images/smilies/smile.gif ) You might know him, he's got a gas truck named after him........ Casey put so much effort into wiring this place up with electricity, it was truley a great thing to watch him drive the rest of the race in dominating fashion. Casey ended up taking the win by one lap on the field! No small task when a lap is 50 seconds and 1/4 of a mile in length. In one of the best battle of the day, Local hero Billy Fischer and his Tucson counterpart Rickey Gaynor went lap after lap at each other until one mistake finally gave the 2nd position to Ricky with Billy ending up 3rd. So make that Losi one two three in this one and Tucson, Tucson, Phoenix! Some Vegas boys got in on the action as well, with Toby Robinson and Dylan Rodriguez finishing 5th and 7th around Russell Jones in 6th. Congratulations to all who took on the huge task of running expert buggy. Even the B main guys were lights out, in this class!
Well, I'm out for now. If anyone wants to recap some of the other classes before I have time tomorrow, go ahead. Until then, thank you for all the positive coments in person, on line, or by email. Reading Jack Greenleafs post really got me. In 20 years I want to be right here at the Nitro Pit with some of the same people who raced yesterday, sitting around the (Sidewinder) fire pit talking about when we had our first official race day at the Pit. I appreciate you guys and girls taking the time to post your stories, and feelings. Believe me, I'm keeping all these comments you make filed away on cd, so 20 years from now I can go back and say, "We've still got it". As long as we're still making more friends than enemies, I'll be out there cheering you on from The White House http://rctech.net/forum/classic_images/smilies/wink.gif Name that James Bond Movie......
I can really feel it out there on race day, something special going on right now and it's so cool to be a part of it.

I'm running the KHZ CNC knuckles.
Thats a good plan to stick with one class. When you double up on 1/8 scale classes, things start getting really expensive.
To make sure that screw never loosens up, or that the knuckles dont strip, I use a slightly longer screw through the dog ear on the knuckle, and a super thin-like 1.5 or 2mm, not sure exactly-3mm nut with a healthy drop of locktite to prevent that screw from loosening. I wasnt able to find a screw that fit flush, so I used a slightly longer screw and ground it down with a dremel.
btw...are you in any of these pics?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
got to run a little out there this past weekend. probley the best
track and facility in US. I would say the track is slightly better
than the Farm's only cause the dirt, layout and well built jumps. but
i say its the best because as a Whole facilitly, track, pitts, driver
stands, utilities. The guys involed did an A+ job.
The dirt is awsome, it was med-hard packed not a single rut even after
2 big entried club events i guess. 100 plus entries so this track
should hold up very good at major events.
The Layout and jumps were built perfectly, The jumps were placed in
good spots in the layout so it made it feel like the track flowed
really good (the problem most tracks cant seem to figure out).
I was the only one at the track, and i had a ton of fun just driving
and jumping well built jumps with good landers. The 2 speed rollers in
front of pit lane was really fun and different and the next roller
into the big table top double made the layout flow.
cant wait to go back

I've only ran CF's there, but I really cant tell the differnce with tires, I just run what the fast guys run or what I have with me. And with the budget I'm on trying to get ready for the Nitro Challenge I can't afford some new bowties.
I still have to make my $200 dollar order from A-Main, send in my entry and finish building my GT2.
And back to the Series...
We ran at the home of the Cactus Classic last Saturday! I know it's hard to believe, would of ever think 8th scale would be on SRS's track (except on the secret practice days when the store was closed)? I finish 4th in the D-Main:rolleyes: Ya I was pissed. Hopefully this Saturday I'll do better. I'll post Kenny's recap later this afternoon, I gotta run.
See you guys in Tucson...

"I'll need to make this one Brief, so here it goes.
First off thank you to SRS. Your staff was outstanding! SRS has donated $200 from their portion of the entries, to the Trophy fund! Thank you again for having us.
How great was it for me to see that many gas vehicles running that track Saturday? I raced plenty of gas truck races there with only 4 or 5 vehicles so it was awesome to see three full heats of gas truck! Would have been fun to dice it up out there but I'm getting satisfaction just watching the great battles and excitement you're bringing to this R/C Pro AZ Super Series!
Let's talk MT first today: 12 entries in this class and for once it wasn't the Ross Denny show! Ross did TQ and finish 2nd in the A, so it was an awesome points day for him but Jeffery Spooner was flat out on fire with his Red Revo. He must really like that track because he was stuck to it all day. Jack Greenleaf had some bad luck and broke an axle before the start of the race or we would have seen him up in the top 5 most likely. As it was, Trevor G took 3rd with Tom Horn (Poorboy racing) taking 4th and Spider 5th. Congratulations to Michael Newton and Spider for bumping out of the B. Also, had a couple new guys in mt. First time out for Dennis and he had a great time! Thank you to all who helped the new people throughout the day!
Arena Truck: Round one heat one went to Jeffery Spooner with a 14 lap 6 flat effort. Next heat Todd Jonas went 14 in under 6 minutes but didn't complete his 15th lap. Still, he took tq for the round. In round two it was Trevor Clement who had a clean run and took overall tq with 15 laps in 6' 10". Luke Jonas and Mac Mitchell also went 15 in round 2 so they started the main in that order. New guy (Travis Saunders) took his Jammin CRT to the winners circle in the C main and bumped to the B along with Carlos Lopez. In the B main, Tanner Stees led throughout and took the win. He and John Dasilva bumped to the A. Good accomplishment there John! The A main was very tight for the first half with a steller performance by Sean Sanchez. He was actually in the mix right up to the point where his battery dumped on him. Luke Jonas was out front early on (Fast lap of the race by half a second) and throwing down som sick lap times but problems put him out of contention down the stretch. Once Trevor got past Luke he settled in to lead out the last about 20 laps and finished about half a lap ahead of Ross Denny. Just like in MT, Jeffery Spooner had his Truggy hooked and finished a respectable 3rd against some great competition. Todd was 4th with Glenn Shrum 5th. Nice finish Glenn! Tan Man 6th in this one.
Gas Truck: Billy fischer was lights out in gas truck qualifying and in the main but broke while leading and ended up 7th. In qualifying Billy took TQ by 7 seconds over Mike Friery who was out with a brand new GT2. The story in GT was Jake Thayer. He showed up straight from work and went straight to the Gas truck C main. C main in gas truck-love it! Anyway, Jake bumped to the B and again to the A then took the win when Billy went out. Jake was on Billy tight, just a few seconds back at any one moment so it wasn't like he was gifted the win. Wheeler was 2nd followed by Peck, Phillips, and Friery. Electric guys are all over GT these days!!! Congratulations to the A main drivers.
Sportsman Buggy: 39 entries and all the way to a E main! These guys were out for a win because in addition to feeling great all week and getting some large points, the winner received a 10% off coupon for any GO engine! Courtesy of www.racefactorindustries.com (http://www.racefactorindustries.com/) !Andrew Schear picked the right tires and took TQ by 7 seconds on first timer Gabe Harvell (long time touring car racer). The E and D mains in this class were possibly the best races of the day. In the E, It was brothers Ron and Ray Wood taking the top two spots after dicing it up throughout. Then in the D main it was those two viaing for the top two positions. Ethan K. ran a great race and ended up taking the win but the real battle was again Between Ron and Ray Wood. The went back and forth and it was a true drag race to the finish where Ray finished just 2 seconds ahead of Ron, giving Ray the last transfer spot. The crowd, including me were going crazy! Good show guys! Kelly Lugo and Aaron Lewis bumped from the C to the B and Geiger and Boudion bumped to the A. It was a close battle between Gabe and Mike Hoffman in that B main but Gabe took it by 1.3 seconds. The A was set and off they went: From lap one Andrew Schear drove away from the pack and had it on cruise control for the majority of the race. Good battles throughout this race but it was the battle for first that caught everyone by surprise. Schear had a very comfortable lead of about 18 seconds with just a couple minutes to go but then he had some slow laps and even a 35 second lap with just 1 minute to go. Three mistakes on one lap let Trevor Geiger take the lead and with just one lap to battle back, Andrew just didn't have time and took 2nd by 1.4 seconds. Even after blowing that lead he came over after the race with a huge smile on his face! This is one great guy and he's a great addition to the group! Trevor, nice job on the win. You never give up and that's a tremendous trait to have on the drivers stand and off! Cowherd, Yuan, and Van Osten finished out the top 5. Congrats to all the A main drivers! Must feel pretty good to finish at the top of this huge class! Special congrats to Trevor for winning the Go Engine coupon as well and thank you to Russell Jones and RaceFactor Industries! "Expert Buggy A main was the last race of the day and it finished out Big Losi style once again! Big turnout in Expert buggy for round two and I'll say this and gas truck are the classess that really bumped up the competition level this year. Expert buggy is just packed with quality guys that represent the biggest R/C manufactures out there. In addition are some non factory guys that are making their way to the front. In round one of qualifying, heat one EB saw Ross Denny and Eric Kirtz go 15 laps. In heat two, Maifield and Fischer went 16 and Maifield's 6' 11" was good for the rest of the day. Jammin up front followed by, Fischer (Losi), Clement (Kyosho), Gaynor (Losi), Luke Jonas (Jammin). 6th through 8th was Josh, Ross, Casey with two bumps to fill out the A Main. Short field for the C main and the two that took the transfer spots were Craig Westfall and Dominick Sansone, in that order. Richard Brodie is learning his new Eight and finished a couple laps back from Dominick in 3rd. The B main was a tight race up front with the top three finishing within 8 seconds of each other. Chris Wheeler took the win with his new Losi Eight and Kyosho finished 2nd in the hands of Charles Hicks. These two not only bumped to the A but factored in the top 5! Kirts ended up just three seconds out of 2nd place with his Sportwerks Turmoil and Russell Jones also finished on the lead lap with his Xray. So the last race of the night is on the grid and it didn't take but 25 seconds for things to get (screaming on the mic) exciting http://rctech.net/forum/classic_images/smilies/tire.gif Pole sitter Maifield held the lead for the first half lap but then after the pitchers mound he went just maybe 24 inches off the inside pipe (Over the Wagon Wheel turn) or as it should be called, "Lynchmob cirlce" http://rctech.net/forum/classic_images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, Ryan went just a bit wide and Billy squeezed his way inside. They came out of that turn with Billy having the inside line to the next corner. Ryan was carying speed and hit the table just off center and that threw him over the pipe. Ryan came back over the pipe in a mess of traffic and within another lap had completley snapped the left front shock off the A Arm. Even so, he kept in there and finished out 8th. With Billy in the clear he pretty much went on cruise control for the entire 20 minutes. Chris Wheeler, the winner of the B main would get semi-close to the leader but I never got the feeling that Billy was in trouble. This was the first time out for Chris with the Losi and he deserves recognition for finishing out 2nd in this division stacked with primo talent. TC was the only one who had to pull off early in this one, so when you look at the rest of the drivers in this race it's interesting to see in a 20 minute race on a race track where 25 second lap times are the norm, you only had 3 laps between 1st and 9th place. Could have something to do with the difficulty in passing. Ross Denny took 3rd comfortably, good points day for him! Now here was the real battle of the race and perhaps the top 2 of the day. Ricky Gaynor and Luke Jonas were hooked together for much of this race and coming down the stretch, it wasn't clean pass time. I'm not saying there was hacking going on but it was one of those things where they were pushing so hard with so little room that a push pass was spotted from time to time. Those two went back and forth and the whole crowd was watching and cheering, right to the last lap. Look at the lap times for those two on laps 47, 48, and 49! Talk about mirror lap times! Wow http://rctech.net/forum/classic_images/smilies/eek.gif Great show you two! Ricky took the 4th position and Luke came in 5th. It was closer that it looks on paper I assure you. So Losi, Losi, Jammin it was and another day was in the books!
Lots of great comments after the race day here on RC Tech but how about the one from Travis Saunders! When he said the best thing he heard all day was on the drive home when his Dad turned and said, "Nitro Pit is practicing tomorrow, should we go"? Travis and his Dad went from no vehicles to a great first day of racing, in about 3 weeks! Thank you to Craig Westfall and Frenchy for helping those guys tune their new Jammin CRT's. Travis went Babe Ruth in his race as he called his shot on bumping up! Nice job and thank you for coming out!
Again, thank you to SRS and all the racers who are participating in this series! You guys are dialed fo sho! For those of you that take the time to participate on this thread, thank you for all the excitement you build throughout the week and the kind words for anyone associated with the R/C Pro AZ Super Series!
Special thank you to Vantage racing for supporting the series and sending several people home with more than what they came with! Same goes for poor boy racing.net and Tom Horn! Nice finish by the way Tom.
And Tucson it is.............see you there!"

My first heat in Yuma my clutch screw backed out. 2nd heat I was having a great run and would of probably came in the top 3 but my battery dumped and my servos were sloooow. And with two DNF's you start last in the D-main. On the first lap I was sitting second until I came off the big double and I went to make the 180* turn and someone ran into my side and I sat upside down as everyone went by. But I managed to work my way up to 4th but it wasn't good enough to take the 2 bump up's.
We're back at The Nitro Pit next weekend!
