I have ran 6 different fuels in the last 3 years and I have to say I like Sidewinder the best. I'm currently running O'Donnell's in my RB modded Nova Rossi P5X but after this gallon is done (or if HA would get Sidewinder in) I'm going to run Sidewinder again.
I noticed it ran a bit cooler, but I got a lot more run time with Sidewinder. My GT went from barely getting 6 minutes a tank to 10 minutes a tank with just by switching to Sidewinder.
I run 20% in my GT and 30% in my Buggy!

Well Sidewinder is having a shortage on fuel right now, thats why HA is out and they say all the LHS around the valley will be out soon too. :-(

Are any of you guys running less than 20% checking your deck height? If you havent you might be able to make a little more power by droping the deck a little...

OK...this may take a while.

Deck height is the distance from the top of the piston, to the head button. Your deck clearance is what determines your compression ratio. You can use deck height to tune your motor by adding or removing head shims as needed to get the ideal clearance for the % of nitro youre running. But be aware that as you increase the compression ratio, your tuning window gets smaller...not that much smaller, but it will be more sensitive to needle adjustments. So use smaller turns on the needles to avoid blowing past the 'sweet spot'.

The general rule of thumb* is to have a minimum of .007 clearance for every 10% worth of nitro you are running...but some like to shoot for .008. So for 30% you would want .021 clearance, for 20% you would want .014 and for 10% you COULD run as little as .007, but to be safe I would shoot for .008-.010...so because most motors come from the factory shimmed for 20%, its a good idea to check your deck height to see if a little more power can be squeezed out of it.

To check your deck height, start with a motor thats broken in. Pull it out of whatever car its in, get it clean, and make sure your work bench is clean. Next remove your glow plug and grab a peice of solder...yes solder. Bend the solder at the end so its shaped like a L and insert the solder into the motor through the glowplug hole aiming the solder toward the exhaust port. Run the solder up to the wall of the sleeve, you should be able to feel it when you hit the wall. Make sure your hitting the wall and not sticking through a port and hitting the inside of the case!!! You could cut the solder off droping it into the bottom of the case and have to strip the motor to remove the solder...Now turn the motor over with your hand and remove the solder...measure the flat spot on the solder with some calipers. Whatever measurement you get is your deck height! So now remove the head and add or remove shims as needed and re-check the deck height...once you get consistant back to back measurements in the range youre shooting for, youre good to go. Its not really as hard as it sounds...shouldnt take anyone with basic motor skills longer than a hour at the most.

You will need to retune a little...but it is worth it. Your motor will have more bottom end snap and more overall power throughout the power band. But like I said earlier, your tuning window will be smaller than it was before...so instead of making 1 hour adjustments(1/12th of a turn), make 1/2 hour adjustments (1/24th of a turn) when tuning, then split to 1/4 hour (1/48th's) for fine tuning...

Sorry the post is soooo long...it couldnt be avoided.

O'Donnels all the way also. Used Blue Thunder and Traxxas Top Fuel, and they are a waste of money, engine, and time.

When I ran nitro, I used Byron's. I have seen many engines that ran sidewinder and it wasn't pretty. I have used Maxy's and was pleased with that too.

I'm using Sidewinder 30% right now. I've used Bluethunder, O'Donnell's, and Cool Power 30%. I've had the best results with the Sidewinder.

Werks 30% Race. With Werks Motors. I Believe They Are Doing A Motor Warranty As Well If You Run Their Fuel. Expensive Fuel But My Motors Run Amazing With It Verses The Other Brands I Have Used. No Power Robbing Additives Etc.. I Also Noticed My Eyes And Nose Dont Burn As Bad With This Fuel As Compared To Other Brands.
