More often than not, that's an indication that you are too rich, especially on the bottom end.

Unless the starter box is turning backwards, the only other thing I've seen cause a reverse direction is the rich bottom end.

shoes on backwards would just change the engagement point,
Are you sure the box is spinning right? And have you took the diffs apart and then out them back in backwards, that would make the car run backwards?
Would the engine even run backwards the way the crank is made?

My GRP does it once in a while, I just touch the box once more and it reverses the direction. If it does it all the time, try a colder plug. I've heard a hot plug can cause this.

You could be a tad rich Grubby, 260 is usually the temp range on a BF .21 but then I don't think that would make it start backwards. Definitely would like to see a good answer to the question though. My O.S. .21 VG done it Sunday night and that was a 1st for the whole racing season and I know it wasn't too rich, it came off the track at 250.

It could be something simple as starterbox placement or wheel rotation.

What type of starter box? If your using a car battery type make sure its hooked right.

Make sure the flywheel is turning counter clockwise if looking at the engine from the front. The starter box wheel should be turning clockwise if looking at it from the front.

Ive seen lots of 2 wd gas trucks started backwards when using a hand held bump the wrong way or having the battery hooked backwards especialy when using a handheld bump start. Ive done it more than once. Hell Ive tried driving the truck that way. Its hillarious!

I dont thing the bottom end mix has anything to do with it starting, cause if its got fuel in the motor and fire, it will start reguardless.

But I do think a fatter bottom end makes it easier to start and run backwards because it starting of lots of vacuum and not pipe presure. Because from what Ive noticed, when they do start like that the are running way above bottom end rpm range.

I thought it might be the starter box to (wires hocked up wrong wheel spinning in wrong direction ) but thy arent and i even use the same box to start the buggy i drive to and it never has a problem. I dont have the diffs in wrong because after a few tries it will stsrt up and go in the right direction and i can race do it all the time.

i had the same problem with a l/m pro with osvg21 sunday, only did it once.shut eng.down and restarted and it was fine  ofna crome top box that i use on all my car's.
i have seen grubby start his car 5 or 6 times and everytime it runs backwards, shut it down and retry it will start and run fine.
VARY CONFUSSING :shoot:

Just seems to me that for it to start backwards , it has to be with the starter box ...it dont take much movement on the starter box to make it turn the flywheel the wrong direction...
