It's been quite a while since I've used brushless, (last time was in an electric 3D plane!) BUT what would be a suggestion for a 1/10th scale 2WD truck, BUT NOT the Novak 5.5! I heard they were way too much!!!!

Thanks!

The 5.5 is a handful in a 4wd buggy. Man it sure is fun though.rough on tires too!

I dont know........ I figured since it is an electric motor, NOT an engine, it would be best suited here. (Besides, I seen another brushless thread here too!)

What type of battery will you be using? Do you plan on racing?

7.4-11.1 Lipo, & absolutely on the racing part.

I used to race STOCK 2WD electric truck many years ago. When you had to go 5 mins on a 2000mah pack. Looking back NOW, I really wished there were this kinda brushless setups back then.

I think you would do great with a 8.5-10.5 and an SMC 7.4 pack with some decent capacity...you'd be surprised how much power you would have with a 10.5. Overpowered, you'll be spinning your tires. Remember, slow is fast!

I ran a 5.5 on my T3 and it was waaayyyy too much power. On my TC3 on dirt, that's a different story.:D

You don't need no 11.1v pack, I am going to get a 10.5 to go in my Truck, but the 6.5 is just so much fun in the Lazer it's going to be hard to change it out

+1 on not "needing" 11.1v in a brushless 2wd on dirt

lol brushless and lipos aren't hard at all to understand. The smaller the number on the BL motor, the faster it is. I agree on the 11.1v lipo, it's like strapping a rocket on a Huffy. 2 cells are equivalent to a 6 cell NiMH. If I'm not mistaken, some units like the GTB can't handle a 11.1v lipo.

jr1976
07-30-2009, 07:31 PM
The gtb can only handle up to 2s lipo or the older ones anyway

Joe V
07-30-2009, 08:29 PM
new ones too. Mine just 2 cell only

HAD TO DO SOME MODIFYING TO GET THE LIPO TO FIT THE ZX5 BUT THE END RESULT WAS WORTH IT>:D:rctruck:

Joe V
07-30-2009, 09:16 PM
Yes you gotta grind down the webbing in the bottom of the chassis ans I had to raise up the strap mounts a little.

Hey JR, how big is a good crank pin on a V-Spec ? Mine is 5.01mm, and its got a little play, don't know if it's the pin or rod!

jr1976
07-30-2009, 09:34 PM
We got into this discussion the other day.scoob told me the min. Dia.of the crank pin is 4.93mm with no more than .05 difference any where on the crank so sounds like your rod.btw how you like the v spec.

Cool, thanks. I saw where you all were talking just couldn't remember or find it again. Engine is fine, good power thru the whole RPM range. just got done pinching the sleeve, now need to get a rod, but I am going to run it till it blows and might rebuild to Speed spec.

I was also looking at the Mamba BL esc & mtr setup. It states it can handle a 3 cell lipo. BUT, I do aggree! 3 cell will be TOO MUCH!

BUT, I assume (& we ALL know what THAT does! LOL>!) the HIGHER the "C" rating, the higher the output of the pack? I was told a while back, that on an 1/8th scale starter box, you wanted a 30C or more.

Joe V
07-31-2009, 03:38 AM
just use the lipo from your 3pk!!

Is that the same thing as letting the "magical blue smoke" out of either the motor or speed control? Sounds like it COULD be the same???

Tekin Brushless systems have the hotwire and you can fine tune it at the track and you don't need a computer.

9000kv in a T4?? Wow! If you can get it hooked up, it will need a parachute to land.

JT was doing backflips with his E Revo yesterdayYEAH MOST DEF. now that is THE MOST impressive rc ANYTHING Ive seen in a long long long time. If I ever own anything electric, it will be one of these. That thing turned awesome and had insane but contolable accelleration and handled the bumps as good as a 1/10 buggy IMO. All this on crap tires. If some 1/10 buggy tires could be addapted to fit, that thing would be hooked and faster.:huba:

watched two of them race today on pavement at the knx hobbytwn races, was quite the spectacle, they were flying down the straightaways then bliping the throttle doing flat on the pavement backflips (while going est 25-30mph) and continuing down the straight, very cool to watch:thumbs:

The one thing that (will probably!) keep me away from the Tekin, is the $$$!!!

I know the Novak is cheaper, & unless they've gotten way better, I think I'll stay away from that one too.

SO? What is left?

I really like my Novaks, no problems at all no matter what I throw at it. I'm running an LRP TC Spec in my TC3 late model and I'm pretty happy with it. Haven't tried the Tekins not the Losi and the Traxxas. I wouldn't run the Traxxas nor the Losi, but that it me.

I ended up deciding to get back into 1/10 and got a kit that I have always wanted, Losi XX-4 WCE :ah1: Always wanted once since they came out but back then parts were hard to come buy (Tower use to stock them though) and saddle pack batteries weren't very common.

Planning on using Tekin Sensor 6.5R Motor and Tekin RS Pro ESC which should give it some go
Also going to be purchasing 2 x Kyosho ZX5 RTR's for my kids and will be building a track in the backyard to race against each other. Kyosho bought out a Orion Brushless ZX5 RTR but for some reason wasn't sold to America  But will probably get the normal RTR version and either put a Novak Brushless in it or Castle Sidewinder 4600kv combo
