With the price of piston/sleeves, what do you guys do when your motor is gone? Rebuild it or toss it in the box for parts and buy a whole new motor.
I will need a sleeve soon for my P5. I am going to buy a piston/sleeve off a ebay seller for $95.00 the motor is in great shape. if i bought a new one its $275. But its ALL new. Anyway what do you guys do?

For a P5, I say rebuild it!!!
If it was some sport engine that's less than $175, then toss it, but keep the carb for testing and possible change outs.

Since it is a P5 I would rebuild it, just shop around and try to find the best price

Ive heard that a 7 port piston/sleve in a P5 will make it rip:thumbs: ...something to think about.
Keep in mind, when you do a new pis/slv, you have to do the rod too. The stock rod has been through hell and back. When you put a fresh pis/slv in, the excessive pinch is more than the old rod can handle and it wont last long...Put the R7 rod in there:rock: , thats what comes in the Hotmod P5.
If you wanted to build a screamin 'franken motor' you could use the 7 port pis/slv, R7 rod and 421 crank...all in the P5x case. But by the time youve bought all that, you could have bought a brand new motor:confused:

Since I run the N21BF I'll just toss it or get it pinched. But it still has alot of life in it so I'm not to worried about it right now.
A guy I know runs O.S. motors and buys an extra crank and after break in he swaps them out and saves the old one. It made his engine last a couple more gallons then it usually did because there is so much pressure on a brand new motor that it puts a beaten on the crank.
And the next time he buys a motor he takes out the new crank and uses the old one from the break in before. Then swamps 'em out.
