He will be on here soon to give you a 1st hand opinion .

Im getting ready to break in.

The car assembly itself is SWEET! The lower pivot ball have stops on them now to set track width, the shocks are insanely plush and the car itself is FRIGN" NARROW. The uppper front hinge pins have bushings to adjust and are captured with NO E clips. the tank slash guard and air filter is low profile and much nicer now. The diffs and driveshafts are WAY light compared the old ones on my 5. It also has the large inner bearings in the hub carriers with a TON more sterring throw. It has less parts and hardware than the 5.

When I pulled the body out of the box I was like, OH CHIT! Its all gotta fit under there?

Ive drove every Moog since the Super Athelete and they always have gotten better from one model to the next. This car should be know different and better. We'll see in a couple weeks!

I had both a 5 and 5r prior to the 6. I didn't have any complaints about either of those cars, but the 6 just out performs the prior Mugens in every respect. Turns, jumps, soaks up rough spots, accelerates.... all better than the 5r. The decreased weight along with slightly lower gearing make it accelerate considerably faster than anything I've ever had. The only complaint I've heard from other mbx6 owners is a tendency for the rear end to be loose. I set mine up initially with that in mind, 400/350 shock oils and 2.4mm front/2.8mm rear sway bars and 1.25mm x 6 shock pistons. The rear end of my car doesn't come around and it turns on a dime.

so is the X6 a completely new kit to the X5 or an upgraded version of the X5?

mugen have always seemed pretty on the ball with their products.
i know people said the older kits were heavy but thats not always the worst thing IMO.

and the X6 does look like its quality.

This is could not be any further from the truth. When It comes to getting free rigs it usually comes from me reviewing the rigs for the magazine I work for. Since I have moved over to writing for Xtreme and Car Action doesn't review mugen stuff I have made the decision to spend my hard earned duckets and buy the MBX6. I've been dealing with a few locals guys who run the car and there has been nothing but great things said about the rig. The person that really steered me towards mugen was Scott Hughes of Proline. I was planning on buying a MP9 but I couldn't seem to find a way to spend an extra $250. Plus, I have never owned a mugen. As you know from past experience, I've run either a losi 8ight B&T and the Kyosho SP2WC and ST-RR. Mugen has always been a car I've been some what interested in but never had quite the contact that I have now. I'm going to be running the CRF .21 engine, Ko ProPo 67 servos, Extreme link spektrum system, CRF pipe, and a tiny 2 cell 800mAh LiPo. Should be a fairly dialed setup.

Most likely that RCCA is associated with Great Planes (Tower Hobby) and they do not sell Mugen. That would be my guess.

are you running a stock set up in it or your own cos it looks like you have it running nicely.

I've made a few adjustments as I go. I have 5 races with it so far and each time it gets a little better. I didn't like the diff fluid choices or shock fluid weights of the stock setup. Mostly the 7k in the rear and the 50wt shock fluid was too stiff.

Great planes has nothing to do with it at all. I'm not quite sure what it is but there is something between car action and mugen usa. I have no idea what it is, so don't ask.

I drove the buggy for the first time tonight and I must say its quite a rig. I think the stock setup is a bit stiff but it could also mean that the buggy is brand new and nothing has seated into place yet. I'm running the diffs at 5/5/3, front oil = 450, rear oil = 400, rear hubs forward, roll center in highest position, steering akerman all the way back, and rear hub camber link is on the furthest outside hole. I'm still trying to get the rear settled, seems too loose. It goes thru the bumps quite well, jumps and lands nicely, and carries a lot of corner speed. I might go to thunder alley tomorrow to run the buggy some more.

dont ask?, you brought it up:ah1:

Just seem pretty lame to CHOOSE not to reveiw anything RC related if they are in the business as a RC publication? I would say if the RC community knew about this as a whole, Car Action or any other publication would feel a backlash for being a biased, oppinionated, and phony with no credibiltiy and wouldnt be able to recover from the NON renuals.

thats pretty cool to go against the grain and buy your own though IMO.

Anyways back to the 6...........

I also feel the car is to stiff. Im going straight to my 5r oils and gonna try that set up I used to run 35r 40f. 5f 5c 1r and 3f 5c 1r on the diffs .

That's what I thought about mine prior to driving it, I could tell it felt stiff just dropping it. I switched to 400 front/350 rear. Another thing to check is the rear sway bar. If there is no space at the end of each side of the sway bar, the suspension won't be allowed to compress fully. To see if this is a problem, just put the car on a table and push the back end of the car down. If the chassis can't be pushed all the way down to the surface of the table, then you need to loosen up the ends of the sway bar and move them inward.

Jaylude,
Do you run @ the Hobby Masters track? We live up here in Oregon and that track looks to be the closest, most 1/8th scale friendly track we can find with better weather.

I have almost 6 gallons through my MBX6, love it. I have the Proline V3 revolvers in the rear, seems to have helped "calm" the rear end.

I have also come to like the heavier, 10,7,3 diff. set up.

Yes, more often than not I race at Hobby Masters. We just had a race there this last Saturday the 29th. It was the last of a series with a cash payout. It's a nice track that's well maintained and in contrast to many of the tracks in the near area, it's large with a nice long straight away as well as some big air! I haven't gotten to run V3's yet, although I'd like to try a set. To be honest, I have yet to feel this loose rear end that I hear of. I'm guessing it must be as a result of never having run the stock setup. Any chance you and some others would be able to make a trip down here before the year's end to do some racing?

We were looking @ a road trip that would include the delta R/C/winter race series, with a stop in Redding on the way down and back up.

I think the rear end issues are more of a track thing, personally.

rpm1968
12-02-2008, 05:57 PM
In theory, but we didn't find out about it until yesterday, so it may be too short of notice.

I would still like to get down to Redding though. The Hobby Masters guys seem to be more than accommodating to just drive their track.

I think I am going to put together another set of shocks for the 6 this evening. Optional springs and pistons. Any body got any hot tips on where to start with oil weights with the 6 hole piston and softer springs? I have been using trinity shock oil, 30,35,40,45 wt with the stock piston/spring set up.

LUV DA AIR
12-03-2008, 05:08 PM
the 45wt. might be a good starting place with the 6 hole. 45wt SUCKS on the stock 5 hole 1.35's. thats where I would start with the springs and pistons you're taking about. 45wt front 40wt rear

jaylude22
12-03-2008, 05:15 PM
I've been using the 6 hole pistons w/400 front and 350 rear. The closest equivalent to that would be 35 front and 30 rear. I'm still using the stock springs.

Soft springs, 5 hole pistons and 35 front/30 rear.

10,7,3 on the diffs.

next thicker on the front sway bar.

wide rear hubs

Ran that for a .5 gallon on Sat. Felt nice.

I made a few changes to my setup as well.
Front: 400 wt oil, upper shock mount moved to center
Center: no changes
Rear: Losi 27.5 weight oil, middle upper shock hole, hubs moved forwards, center hole on hub, 2k weight oil.

I drove it at the toys for tots race at thunder alley using proline M3 revolvers and aka foam. The buggy drove awesome. at this point I'm still working on getting use to the way the buggy drives. The light oils made a huge difference in allowing the car drive easier and better thru out the entire track. I'm working on taking some of the "snappyness" out of the car and I'm going to try 4k oil in the center diff.

Thicker diffs, lighter springs and oil seem nice, best, for me, so far. But I'm just some backyard running, wooden ramp jumping, wall riding freak who hates clay.

I need V3 crime fighters, do they make them?

I would really like to try the gold or black answer clutch springs next.

It would seem we will need to road trip for this next "test" session or build an indoor track. anybody got a spare 500 g's.

Since it looks like no mugen 6t for x-mas, maybe a new Ninja for the 6 is in order.

Let's fly to the ATL for the psycho nitro. That sounds like the sickest thing going. 24 hrs a day cars running, wood ramps, wall rides, sounds like home. I would race if they all were like that.
