Press Release:
There has been a lot of speculation and rumors about Team Losi producing a 1/8 Scale off-road buggy. Well the rumors are true….. There is a new, yet to be named, nitro buggy coming and like most Team Losi designs it is quite different from the common chassis currently offered. Instead of taking the easy road of producing one of the two predominant chassis/suspension packages as has become the norm, the Losi design team did their homework and started with a clean sheet of paper. The new Team Losi 1/8 buggy uses the same innovative thinking, sophisticated technology, hi-tech materials and cutting edge design that has separated their racing chassis from the rest. This also marks the first American designed and produced 1/8 buggy ever offered to the world. A few of the unique and user friendly features include: a thick premium aircraft alloy chassis that has been machined for lightness, more centrally mounted motor, captured suspension and king pins, fully enclosed radio box and tray that is easily removed for cleaning, sealed diff housings, and an oversize fuel tank with constant fuel delivery. Handling has been optimized with a longer adjustable wheelbase, adjustable steering and suspension geometry, zero bump steer, and a narrower chassis profile for quicker response and better balance on rough surfaces. With the tooling already in progress and pre-production units due to hit the track soon we look to have production kits available mid to late summer.

About the plastic shock towers, I think that they will eventually tur them aluminum.

A guy at my track is a factory guy from Team Losi he hasnt gotten his yet. He said he will bring it to the track when he gets it. I will be sure to check it out! 8)

Team Losi hasn't released any info regarding a release date or pricing, and tech info is scarce as well. In fact, the only thing that's for sure is that nothing is for sure! Says Losi: "Please understand that this is only an incomplete engineering model and there are parts that will be significantly different in production like the shock towers that will be made from aluminum and probably have alternate mounting locations etc."

That said, much of what you see here probably will make it to production (if not the name "Eight" itself, which is tentative). Notice the..

> Offset drive shafts that let the engine move closer to the centerline

> Up-front receiver box location

> Stand-up servos

> Machined chassis

> Oversized shocks (not LST big, but their diameter looks oversized to me. I could be wrong)

> Front arms wrap around the C-hubs and appear to have spacers for wheelbase adjustment.

> Wing has tall inner dams to keep airflow on the wing

Team Losi's Travis Amezcua TQ'd the RC Pro Series East Race this past weekend with the still-in-development Losi Eight. The win also went to the Eight, but not with Travis behind the wheel; Adam drake took that honor. Reliable sources not affiliated with Team Losi said the buggy “was unbelievable” at the Farm 2 in North Carolina, which will host the ROAR 1/8-scale Nationals in July. Will it be the Eight's first Nats win?

They started from scratch and redesigned almost everything! The engine is in the middle of the chassis and there are 2 reciever boxes

All 1/8th buggies have pretty much the same chassis and are stup the same. Losi is trying something new that has never been done before.

the seperate radio boxes were used on the xtm xterminator.but i admit the engine placement and the steering knuckles(picked up from their 1/10 xxx4 bug) are new to 1/8th

Above Photos

Here’s Travis’ personal Eight, straight from his RC Pro Series East TQ run. The hard-anodized aluminum shock towers are now in place, complete with weight-savings machining. The shocks use 4mm shafts (other buggies use 3.5mm) and 15mm shock bodies to help absorb the extra shaft volume and provide super-smooth damping. The aluminum front uprights caught our eye, byt Travis explained that they’re just stand-ins until the molded parts arrive (we wouldn’t be surprised if they turned up as option, however). And how does Travis like the ride? “It’s probably got the most acceleration and steering of any car. It feels like an electric 4WD car to me, the way acellerates. It’s also the easiest 1/8 scale car to work on, you can pull off the front or rear end with six screws.”
