This strange looking car is in fact the all new Inferno MP9 from Kyosho, the car that the company is confident can defend its World crown in the US this summer. The car, which is obviously still in prototype phase, was shown at this weeks Shizuoka hobby show in Japan, and to cover the parts that they want to keep secret they made this rather cool looking bodyshell. No further details are known, but have a look at the pictures and draw your own conclusions.

What happened to the MP8? Or is there to many other 1/8 buggies out there with 8 in their name

The number 8 has bad juju when naming a buggy, look at the problems the 8ight had initially, and the initial problems with the RC8, both have pretty much been fixed, but I would liken it to those Capt's on Deadliest Catch, they won't leave port on a Friday, bad things happen.
I am surprised the xray has not had more issues, JUST from using the 8 in the name...(no slam on xray here)

There is a place that has the MP9 for pre-sale (inferno only, or something like that), they have the price listed as $769, and will adjust the price as needed, although there is no part number or price set yet. I guess there are over 100 pre-sold. Ryan Lutz said the first shipment should be very large, but did not give a date.

he also said to hang on to your jaw, cause when you see the price its likely to hit the floor!!!
That scares me, cause when you think of the price of the WC kit when it first came out, and all the things that have been added to the MP9 (cnc knuckles, BB's, light uni's to name a few) the new kit is going to be SPENDY...
But Im still getting one

At the JBRL race this weekend, the MP9 went 2-3-4
Top 4 were drake, king, lutz, pavidis...not sure where truhe finished, but the KTeam kept him off the podium! Apparently king had 1st wrapped up tight, but got taken out by lapped traffic in the closing minutes of the race. Things are lookin good for the Red Army!
I know John Cary was there, so maybe he can chime in with more detail about the race...and more importantly how the car looked on the track.

how are you enjoying it? i noticed your running some thermal tape on your tank, is that to stop fuel heating or tank melting?
and which servo's are those?

I'm not a Kyosho guy so I am just asking. Were the old shocks the "big bores" that people rave about? Were they not threaded on the outside?

I have yet to run the car which probably isn't a good thing since I'm going to be racing the Nitro Challenge next week. I have to use the car for a studio assignment for a company and article before I get to run it. This way the car stays prestine.
The servos are KoPropo PDS-2368's with the upgraded aluminum top plates. It makes the servo a stronger and less likely to break the tabs off.
I'm running the thermal tape to help protect the fuel tank and pipe. In past i've melted a tank or two and I figured this would help stop that.
Yup, those are the new big bores without the threaded bodies. Kyosho tends to use te clips because it helps to make things more exact rather then guessing or measuring if everything is the same.

I've already run the engine before. Its a Kanai Evo III. Scoobie has seen it run before. Its pretty quick. Just recently I tore it all down, polished the crank, and installed Boca Ceramic bearings. I'm going to be doing the same treatment to me CL7B engine thats in my ST-RR.

thanks for the info on the servos, so sick looking and functional as well.
I like the clips. keeps things simple.
have fun in AZ.
I want to ceramic coat a set of those servo lids. easy to clean and super styley as well.

02-15-2009, 03:10 AM
Kanai III.... i think i've only seen the Kanai STI II run it had the green head on it from memory. had some serious power and top end on it though!
how is longevity with the Sirio's? i was looking at the Sirio .24 for my truggy but am now thinking of the Plus4 Novarossi. RB's are seriously pricey over here so i haven't even considered one of those yet and i'm not really wanting a short life top $$$ engine.
JohnCary
02-15-2009, 12:20 PM
The engine has ballistic top end and now that i have installed some boca ceramics it should be even better. For the most part Sirio's are awesome power plants. I've got two of them and truthfully have nothing negative to say except for the fuel mileage. They're not that bad but they are definitely not a V-spec. I know the the King's put about 8-10 gallons thru a motor before they dicide to pull it out of a rig. I've got about 4 gallons or so thru my Evo III and there is still plenty of pinch.
If your looking for a great truggy engine get a Sirio CL7B. Its a long stroke engine which generates more bottom end torque, perfect for a truggy. The Evo III has less bottom end but a bit more top end because its a short stroke.

I know, I know. but they are one hell of a horn. way stronger then the dynamite ones. Ever since i broke one on my RC8T i've become weary about using them. I'm trying to get some of those new racers edge ones that use small screws to hold them onto the servo gear.
pantera nitro
02-15-2009, 09:25 PM
the CL7B STI is $500AUS and non STI is $450 over here...... and i think the Kanai's are about $50-$70 less than that.

the most ballistic, more power than a person could ever need (or use) in a buggy, that Ive ever seen is a CL7B sti/2013 combo....didnt get much runtime, but I guess thats the tradeoff for insane power
porkchop
02-15-2009, 10:21 PM
the most insane motor i ever driven was a fusion motor sport fms 21-7 that thing was insane
JohnCary
02-16-2009, 12:05 AM
Now imagine that in a truggy.... very nice!!
That engine in my truggy i get about 8 minutes out of a tank at a normal track. As for next week at the nitro challenge..... not so sure about that. The crazy thing is that CL7B makes so much power at 180-190degress that I don't want to lean it out any more. Its way too much engine for a buggy, especially the newer buggies that are light weight and aggressive.

buggy-
1)Axe Rossi MAMBA X1 Evolution
2) Novarossi Plus4
3) Sirio Kanai STI II (but now you've thrown the III into the mix lol)
4) JX.21 BO1A
5) or an OS speed
truggy-
1) Plus4
2) Sirio .24
3) Axe Rossi Cobra X1 .21 or the AXE ROSSI Cobra .25
hard to way them all up on performance and run time.

buggy-
1)Axe Rossi MAMBA X1 Evolution (i read good and bad on these so i am not sure what to tell you)
2) Novarossi Plus4(i have over 2 gallons on the one in my buggy at 220 i was pushing 9.40 run time and it geting better ever tank love this thing)
3) Sirio Kanai STI II (but now you've thrown the III into the mix lol)(to many problems for me look what all the pros are doing leaving)
4) JX.21 BO1A(when you lean it out to make run time and temp it just to stiupid to drive in a buggy but to flat for truggy imo)
5) or an OS speed(way to much money get over 220 and it wont last long)
truggy-
1) Plus4(the one in my truck got about a gallon on it and it only geting better pushing 11 min if not longer easy)
2) Sirio .24(once again there team leaving)
3) Axe Rossi Cobra X1 .21 or the AXE ROSSI Cobra .25(read good and bad never seen one run evan)
you have the right buggy motor up there i was always a os guy evan if they got hot and died a lil sooner till i was offer to run for fusion motor sports in 09
i said idk what do you have that run with a vspec and jim hooked me up on 2 plus 4s to start with i am now geting better run time then my vspec ever did and i am got more power and they seem better built
also i bought a third motor the scary sob i ever drove.
the fms 21-7
i bolt in buggy just to try and ran 1/4 a tank and pull into pit lane way to much motor ever where. so i took and bolt in my truggy and the thing was still nuts my kind truck motor run with a os 28 and gets better millage
now i own 2 of them and i will be runing one in buggy when i go to place like the farm and super dusty places where i need more motor.

So you broke two cranks?
Being in Souther California has it perks since both kyosho america and several of the sirio team drivers are based out of this area. This allows me to hear all sorts of interesting gossip about whats what and who's running what. Of all the drivers I know running those engines, none of which have experienced any problems. Now that doesn't mean that incidents don't occur. I could say something about Nova Rossi engines, especially the plus 4, and v-specs to. Every engine manufacture does run into issues once in a while. Doesn't mean the name should be slandered. I think Sirio is on the radar these days because they split from their manufacturing company of Star Motorsports to create their own factory.

I have seen this in other forms of racing, I seen a guy at a track I use to run go thru 6 chassis in one season, every week it was a complaint that it was always the chassis fault, he finished the season buying the most exspensive chassis on the market, the 2 chassis he had before that were new also and were sold to some guys at the track, the man showed up that weekend bragging about how much he had spent ,and then started to say things like how great it was and how much faster he would be, trying to make himself feel better, and to explain a reason why he just spent 2800.00 on a chassis, well it was a $1000.00 to win race, when it was all over I won the 1000.00 on my 2 year old chassis and the other two chassis that the man had sold were right there with me too the end, after the race I seen his son throw his helmet and again blame it on the chassis, when the whole time it was his father that wouldnt take the time to figure out the setup for what each chassis needed.
Doesnt matter how much you spend, if you dont have a setup.
Kyosho just inflated their price because they knew guys with deep pockets would buy it, and the try to reason with everyone else why they had spent soo much, when the truth is that you could of got a car for a whole lot less and spent the extra on more track time and trying different setups to suit your driving style, copying one of the internet from some pro works for him and may get you close but everyone is different

That is soo true man.
My 8-T setup is based on Truhes setup, but with some tweaks to suit my style of driving. After putting in the Flex tuned chassis, this car just got allot more on power steering.
You need some serious stick time with your car before you start tweaking it. I'm not even gonna get the 2.0 truggy this season. The org. Losi works fine for me.
As for Kyoshos being expensive....well over here it's even worse. But they do look nice.

While it is true that the car doesnt necesarily make the driver, the car is a huge part of the equation. Proven by Tebo's recent results since he made the move back to KYOSHO....he dominated CRCRC, and now the Pro Buggy overall TQ at the Nitro Challenge. While he could hold his own on a good day with his O'D car, he was obviously off the pace of the top tier drivers. Now that hes back with Kyosho, it appears that he is working his way back to the top where he belongs.

They did not inflate their prices just to make a few extra bucks, I know this for a fact. If anything, they are trying very hard to lower their prices on product. The deal is with the MP9 that people kept asking for a race ready no holds back rig, their answer to the equation was the MP9. The cost of materials on the MP9 is drastically higher then the 777 SP2 WC. All of the ball joints are now hard anodized 7075 aluminum compared to the old steel ones, from a production and manufacturing stand point this is far more expensive. The chassis is now made out of 7075 aluminum instead of the japanese style aluminum they use on other vehicles. Rather then developing a cast knuckle they supplied some burly CNC ones which cost nearly $90 separately. Essentially, Kyosho answered the demand put forth buy their customers, no everyone is ***************ing about it.

John, Kyosho is forgetting one important thing...Yes, the loyal KCar guys asked for a car with CNC knuckles, hex head screws and a few other things (and a split center diff that we didnt get). The thing guys were ***************ing about was that for the price we paid for the old car, it should INCLUDE those items that other more reasonably priced kits came with...
Not to say that the new car isnt great, or that kyosho is ripping people off...I completely understand why the car is so costly. It was bad timing on Kyosho's part.

I agree with that whole heartedly. A car with that price tag released when our current economy was making a turn for the worse which is probably why cars like the D8 have been so successful. Talk about releasing a car at the right time with the right price tag.
Have you gotten your MP9 yet scoob?

Mitch no were in my post did i say i was talking about a OCM the dt-19 range isnt a bad kit mate its a good bang for bucks car and propably alot better than the other crap in that price range but beleive me its not the best! I just said that mate because you were bagging out a car the MP9 wich you have never even seen in real life mate yet alone driven one so how would you know that its not worth $1200 aus. Maybe not for you the noob basher but for the boys that race every weekend this is peanuts to pay for a good kit and yes i was a team driver for OCM but i quit long before what happened between me and Kev and in saying that what happened is yes between me and Kev i dont understand why you like to post that up on all the forums!
