Started with clear then sprinkled glitter in it before it dried then sprayed the colors last. It's amazing what you can do with a spray can.

After I taped off the parts with the glitter I spray it with a clear lacquer as soon as I sprayed it I sprinkled glitter on it.

It depends how thick you apply the clear, it is like any other paint the thicker it is the easier it will crack.
