Anyone have any feedback on running 2 diff gaskets and no o-rings as opposed to 1 gasket and the o-rings ?
I have not tried this, and am fixin' to go through my diffs and was wondering how it is. I do not have a diff leaking problem or anything, well....no more than usual..... but have heard this is what people run now.

All I have read say to NOT use the small O-rings. I think most that use two gaskets also use longer screws. I run without small O-rings and one gasket with no problems. Lots of people also true the diff cup prior to asssembly.

when starting with a new car,I used no small O-rings, and 2 gaskets for the first 3 races to let the gears kinda break in, then when I rebuilt them I would go back down to 1 gasket

roger that !
Thanks guys for the input!
I have always used the o-rings in the past.... think I will try not using them now and see how that goes. Probably stick with 1 gasket.
Appreciate all your responses

the small O-rings make the diffs feel like you are running 2000wt thicker oil than you actually are

Appreciate all your responses :thumbs:no orings and you will imediately notice more on power steering which personally, I love. Not only, dose the orings make the diffs action slower like thicker oils as BIG RED stated above, but when turning I notice alot less push in. Ive had the local shop owner/Kyosho racer tell me." thats the best turning vehicle Ive ever driven." :D

so you guys are saying to pull the small orings that seal the outdrives? what keeps the oil from leaking out?

hey now, I was talking about the o-rings that go on the outdrives ! I have never ran the spider gear rings. Now wait a moment- thanks Scoob for clearing this up. You guys run the o-rings on the outdrives correct?

sorry folks for not being clear, I have never ran the o-rings on the internal gears and frankly.... forgot all about them.

sorry folks for not being clear, I have never ran the o-rings on the internal gears and frankly.... forgot all about them.I just assumed you were talking about the intenal "tension" orings. Never, in a million years, would I have thought you were talking about the actual outdrive seals. :shoot:

yea, I had forgotten all about those ones, and when I started hearing people talking about set ups and saying " no o-rings" I thought about the outdrive o-rings. :shoot:
I figured you could not remove those without the oil leaking out, but thought I'd ask.
I run 5 ,7, 1 wt. in the diffs and like it.
Who runs 2 in the rear?
Anyone run something completely different?

I alway ran 2 in the rear in the mbx5-r, never tried anything else, it was always hooked up, so I never felt the need

I have always ran 1000wt in the rear and I feel that the buggy is hooked up in a most excellent way.
I guess I am just jones'in for some rc car action and reaching for something to put my attension to. I have heard lots of people using 2000, maybe I will try just for the experience, and to see the difference.
