Help racers at the track new and veterans, represent the company your applying for greatly (run their products, stickers, shirts). Help make the hobby grow. Get a resume together, and winning always helps.

They are sponsoring you to get their name out there, they want something in return. You get deals on products, you represent them.

you must be visible at all the events

winning races is the easiest way to be visible

however you can be a good candidate by just being knowledgeable about the product - helpful and supportive - approachable and of good personality - a people person who will spread the good word and the positive vibe about a product.

there are many people I know who would make excellent sponsorship candidates, who don't win any major events

only trouble is you gotta be out there to be seen by prospective sponsors-

if you meet that criteria ...try and hit up some small start up companies who are dying to get the word out about their product, and offer a relationship where they give you some free schwag and apparel to wear , and maybe cost price on their product - as opposed to free everything.
remember- the small companies may not have the means to fully support you, and the big companies that do, are probably looking for well known names who have major victories under their belt.
