I read in a Xtreme RC/RC411 mag that all Spektrum recievers come with a inbuilt fail safe unit. I can't read this anywhere in the manual or on their site. Is this correct?

Yes it's true. The failsafe is programmed during the binding process by holding the brake on while binding. Servo throw must be correct during binding for the failsafe to operate correctly. If the throw of the servo was reversed during binding, the failsafe will command the throttle open, rather than closed.

id recommend not setting it to full brake tho ive found thru trial and error that its better to leave it centered.

Or set it with very little brake, enough where if something happens to your radio your car doesnt stick with throttle. Just enough for it to slow it down.
You dont want to set it at full brake because if you accidently leave your car on our hit the switch it'll kill your servo

Cool, I will remember that when setting it up.
Read the manual again to try and find it and it was on the 2nd page :shoot:

Yeah it is JR, just really, really tight fit. Pretty sure thought that Airtronics is the same as Sanwa, not JR?

Airtronics, Sanwa, JR all use the same servo horns.
