alot of people have different ways of doing it. but i idle the first take at a rich setting.then the 2&3rd tank i run it on the track still a rich setting.tanks 4,5 and6 lean out about 30 degrees still running on track.tanks 7and8 are used to get motor tuned in to race.getting the motor in the 200+ degree range.hope this helps.

Ask 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers! The main objective is to heat cycle the motors internal parts. That is... get the motor up to temperature while it is rich enough to provide good lubrication to the internal parts, and then let it cool back down ( with the piston at the bottom of the stroke!) Then do it again, and again, for a few tanks worth of fuel. You want the motor to get up to normal operating temps! Be careful not to try to break it in too rich and cold because you could stress the rod and other parts. Get it up to good temp, let it run there on the bench for a bit, then let it cool down. After 2 tanks or so, do the same heat cycle thing, only drive the car around being very easy on the throttle and working it from just moving to about half throttle. Ease into the throttle, avoid short strong pulls on the trigger. Slowly begin getting into the upper range of the throttle, but not for too long. Try to "work in" the whole range of throttle, during your heat up sessions, and in another 2 tanks or so, you can lean it out to good performance and begin to come close to a race tune on it. Do not try to make it scream too soon. You should run the motor so it runs good, but on the rich side, for several more tanks while the internal parts work themselves into a nice fit. You will notice when the motor suddenly comes to life. Then you can lean it out to a race setting and let 'er rip!!
