I just picked this up tonight, took it home and tore into it. Its unlike any other engine i have ever seen. The craftsmanship is unreal! there was no flashing on the sleave, you can actually see where they cleaned each port by hand. speacial cuts that most doesnt have, and a dished piston top. Im gonna break it in tomorow morning and try to race it tomorow evening.

I love it!!! Ive got 2 races on it and its still sticking at TDC. but the rod has 0, no play in it. The engine has unbelievable bottom end and is smooth through out the powerband. tunes like a champ, idles perfect, and rmp drops fast when off throttle. its all you will ever need.

What kind of bottom end does it have? More/Less than a P5?
team lo-tec
03-30-2007, 07:52 PM
not sure, never had or drove a p5 but i have a werks TLB3 and it has as much or maybe a lil more bottom than it. I can let the mamba sit for about 30 sec. to a minute at idle and then punch it and there is no hesitation or bogg. it just goes and pulls all the way through. Id run it against any thing out there.
And so far ive ran it with a jp-1, an 053, and a 063 pipe. it runs very well with all. im kinda grinnin:D with the 063. its a bad boy!

i broke it in with a odonell med/hot plug and am still running it. mine came with a cold plug so im going to wait til temps warm up in the 90s.
I race it again last night and was pushing a vspec down the straights. Didnt i twig! lol.:winner:

The Mamba is definately a :winner:. Smooth running little engine to say the least. No need to buy a $300.00 engine as long as the Mamba is around!!

Scoob....How do you like your mamba engine? Looks like I'm getting one. RJ is helping me out since there was a slight mishap with one of the engines i sent him. does it look as strong as my sirio? how does it compare to your P5?
team lo-tec
04-16-2007, 05:30 PM
funny you asked about the mamba compared to a p5. this past weekend the team raced dirt oval, where speed plays a major part. and i was told that thier mamba was pushing a new p5 down the straits. the owner (travis) said the mamba was too powerful. lol.

I still havent broke it in yet:eek: :shoot: Its ready to go, just need to mount it and heat cycle...
lo-tec, did you add the shim?
JohnCary
04-16-2007, 06:42 PM
So since it seems that this engine has some punch....what do you think about it being mounted into a truggy.
team lo-tec
04-17-2007, 04:31 PM
no, i didnt add any shims, im only running 20% fuel.
John, i actually broke mine in on my mugen mbx5t truggy. runs awesome on a truggy!

Well, ive got nearly a gallon through mine and it is still tight. but the power is amazing, nothing has out motored it yet. it has so much power im running it in my mbx5t truggy. temps are good too, about 225 degrees. cant wait til it loosens up, its gonna be awesome!!!!!!!

What kind of run time do you get??
JohnCary
05-13-2007, 05:30 PM
are you running the engine fairly rich for breakin? I'm going to be firing mine up tomorrow. When you pulled it out the box was the carb setup fairly well for break in? The instructions and some vaige as to how many turns from fully closes the needles should be. What plug are you running?
team lo-tec
05-13-2007, 09:27 PM
Not sure on the run time but i can tell its gonna be pretty good.
John the carb on mine was pretty close. it was extremely rich so i turned both high and low needles in a lil. i broke it in using an odonell med/hot plug and am still usung it. was saving the axe plug for warmer weather.

Anyone know the factory settings on the rossi mamba engine? I have the hot mod version and it flat of screams, need to add I get 10 min plus run times. In the c main it was 10 min run, everyone eles had to pit for fuel and I stayed out, ran 10 min and could have gone another 2 min easy.
Its in mt mbx5t truggy too. Love this engine, just looking for the factory setting for the carb:confused:...
Thanks.
I decided to order me a Axe Rossi Cobra. From what I've been reading it gets 17-19 mins of run time in the 8T. It costs around 100 bucks more than the Mamba. They are both supposed to be great engines but the longer run time sold me. It'll be going in my 8T. I'll let you know what I think after I've had it for a while, and ran afew races with it.

The Cobra is supposed to be as fast as anything else out there...

17-19 minutes??? I'd have to see that to believe it

05-28-2007, 01:09 AM
I got 13 minutes out of a ceo mod v-spec once in a mbx5t, that was crazy, but 17 plus, I would'nt beleive it without some kind of proof
jaylude22
05-28-2007, 02:22 AM
Agreed. 13 minutes is very impressive, but to go at least 4 minutes beyond that..... Sounds like one for mythbusters to me.
I think the guy may be exaggerating some too. 17 + sounds unbelievable to me also. It is advertised as better mileage than the mamba so if it'll get 13-14 I'll be impressed.
Do you think you might get close to that 17 if you putt around never going over 1/4 throtle?:D

Lean that motor out, and run it at 350 plus degrees.
:shoot:
I would bet you can 17 minutes on a tank.
How long would that motor live??:cussing:
Anything more than 10 minutes of run time is really good.
My CEO Modded V-Spec can go at least 11 minutes at 240 degrees. That is in a MBX-5t

I got 3 tanks through my Mamba now. Ive had this thing for almost 2 months and just started breaking it in...lol So far, the thing that impressed me most, was it fired up imediately. I primed it a little first, then as soon as the flywheel touched the starter wheel, it fired. Not a single dry revolution on the internals...the last two engines I broke in spun over a few times before they fired...So far so good...I did feel that the needle settings were a little lean for break in. I wrapped the head in foil and richened it up quite a bit...Im going to start leaning it out and try to get a gallon on it tomarrow at the track.

So I finally raced the mamba yesterday...it runs GREAT with about a half gallon through it! It actually runs WAY better than my P5 did when I was at this point with it.
Good to hear. My Cobra is at about the same stage and I'm real impressed with it also. What kind of run time are you getting?
scoobie
06-13-2007, 09:31 AM
Between 7 and 8...Ive got about a half gallon on it and this thing is getting better with every tank. Its running between 240-250 and still pretty rich. Once its broken in, the temps will come down a little and I can lean it out some more the runtime will get better...but I dont think I will see anything near the 10 minute mark.
What vehicle do you have it in?? I have the cobra in a 8T.
Seem to be a real big difference it the two engines we have. The cobra is getting about 13 mins and it is hard to get it over 230* I keep leaning and leaning. It's running great .
Good luck at the races.

Its in a sp2. The Mamba and the Cobra are two completely different engines...thats why there is a big difference in the price! But really, the Cobra is supposed to be soooo much engine, that it sounds like its more than worth the extra $100...

I'm still iffy about my mamba. I guess it gets the job done.

John, if youre still using a JP pipe on it, thats why its not performing. Put a 086 or 2013 on it and youll be much happier. Are you still running it in your truck? The Axe team guys say the Mamba is best suited for buggy applications. The Cobra is what you want for a truggy
JohnCary
06-19-2007, 01:47 PM
I'm not too sure if I want to buy a new pipe for it. I have not tried it in my buggy yet and I have not tried my sirio in my truggy yet.
side note:
I might be getting my hands on a Mugen truggy with the ninja in it. Going to drive it to see if I'm faster with it.

I just started the 2 gallon mark on my mamba, still run on glow plug #2 p6 cold plug. Mine didnt work to well with the jp-1 but runs much better with the jp-3. I tried it with the ofna 086 pipe that came with my H8, the jp-3 works best out of those 3.
Forget about dropping the temps below 250, for what ever reason, 250 is the majic mark for this engine. My longest run time is 12:28 and shortest is 9:38.
I tune to performance, then temp it. I thought 250 was a bit hot, so had my pit man fatten it up 1 hour and the performance dropped all around. Try to lean it 1 hour and the same results, 250 is the mark.
I got mine off ebay, hot mod version and the piston sleeve for the cobra and mamba are the same. The parts catalog shows item number and they are the same. Must be the crank or perhaps a turbo plug for the cobra?
Thats all, will keep updates posted, so far its been very reliable for me and runs down every engine in its way:thumbs:

Same things with my Picco 245-255 is the magic mark no matter if we lean it or richen it. It like to be in that area and runs perfect. But it ran flawless last weekend (3rd Place Expert A) and came off at 214 after 15 minutes.
