View Full Version : carb needles backing out?!

I'm new to nitro, so I knew there would be a learning curve... but this has been rough. This whole time I've been thinking, this can't be THAT hard, or nobody would be running nitro! Well, today I discovered why my carb needs tuning EVERY TIME I FIRE UP THE CAR. (including between fuel tanks) The low speed and high speed needles are backing out of the carb!!! Like I said, I suspected that I was adjusting the carb a little too frequently, but today when I was tinkering with the car, it wouldn't idle. It was REALLY ticking me off! It's hard to pull the car up and tweak the carb if it stalls every time you bring it back. So, I left it on the bump box and decided to try to come up with a reasonable idle...

It was during one of my throttle blips that I noticed the high speed needle moving. Sure enough, I fed it some throttle and I could watch the needle literally back all the way out of the carb!! (needless to say, I shut it off)

Anyway, I suspect that they are backing out due to vibration. I've got a front driveshaft and a left front dogbone that are slightly bent in the car, so I know it's vibrating... but still, this is CRAZY! It would be impossible to keep the car tuned if it loses its setting DURING a run!

Anybody ever use loctite on their needles? Not the permanent kind, but the light duty stuff? And which one is lighter? The red or the blue?

Help?

My guess would be that your needle o rings need to be replaced. Don't put any kind of loctite on your needles it will gunk up the carb and o rings. Check to see when you adjust the needles there should be a small amount of resistance and if there isn't or barely any your o rings need to be replaced.

What type of motor you got? That is odd, and yes you need to o rings not locktite.

it's a 3.5cc from a kyosho rtr buggy. There is NO resistance on the needles. O-rings huh? That makes sense. I'll see if the local hobby shop has any.

THANKS!!

once you get the o rings don't scuff or damage the new ones when putting them in then just put everything back to factory and go from there

I would put some lube on the O-rings before you put the needles back in. I've ripped new ones apart tring to screw the needle in with out lube.
