hey, i know my nitro's kinda well, but i am new to electric, any one know what could help me get that little edge out there with my vendetta 1/18, we are running these little things with carpet ytires on the indor track, theyre awsome... but i wan't to get a little more spunk out of the thing there are other guy's that are pulling away on the straight's and we all hafta obide by the rules, "stock 380 motor, 1200 mah batteries" so what is left... these guy's are seriousely pulling away, is a high end speed controller that important? i bought a nice new battery charger, and my 1200 are taking like 1300 and change so they are good, i changed my batt connecters to dean connecters, and sodlered the engine connecter direct so there is no resistance in the plug, is there any other little things that could help??? another 2 mph would me awsome!!!!!

ESC could be part of it...are you running the same gearing as the others? Do the motors have open endbells, so you can tune the brush/spring combo? There are alot of things that can be done to a electric motor to pull a few more rpm, but you have to be able to open the can....Also a super free drivetrain is important in spec racing.

well i could open the can but then the car would fail inspection...
and i am running the same gear as everyone else, well most everyone else... couple of people are using a smaller motor gear but i have tried their gear and the car is at top speed only 20 feet into the streight.. the one i got now causes the car to hit top about 1/2way down the streight, i guess a high end esc is the answer... and i gonna see if i can eliminate all the friction in the drive train

So it made a big difference? just the controller?

When I was running electric, I used to flush all the grease out of the bearings and put modified motor bearing oil on them for lubrication...the difference in life span was minimal, but the reduction in drag was huge. Proper shimming is critical too. Just make sure you break the bearings in a little at low rpm before you start driving hard.
Another thing you could try is bushing oil for the motor....trinity and orion/peak both make good stuff.
There are tricks to making closed endbell motors work better too. But Im not too savy on them. One thing I picked up from my xmod days, which is a old slot car trick, is to break the motor in, in a glass of water to flush all the brush dust and keep everything cool while the brushes seat to the armature...heres how
Make up a 2 cell pack and charge it up, make it so you can plug into (no hardwire)a BRAND NEW motor. Take a glass big enough for the motor to fit in, fill it with water (no joke), and run it for a minute or so under water...watch all the crap come out of the can as the brushes seat at low rpm...when the time is up, pull the motor out, let it run as you pour out the water. Repeat with clean water. Then spray it down with electric motor spray, inside and out. When dry oil the bushings and take it out for a rip...you should pull a few more rpm.
If you could pull the endbell there are a ton of things you can do to a stock motor to get more power, like spring tension/brush cut, shimming the armature so its centered in the magnetic field, polishing the armature/bushing friction points, twisting the armature to advance the timing...and more. But you cant do it...bummer

Yeah I've heard of the under water break in, never tried it but I can tell how it would work.

i did the under water thing, seemed to help a little.... (a fresh motor on it's own helps alot on those little guy's though) but i did three more upgrades to the little sucker, Spektrum, XRS, and a Faster servo!
That thing is gonna move out like a scared cotton tail.

you also might want to try hitting up the Trinity and Orion forums to see if anyone has any tricks for closed endbell motors...
