i've got this nitro rustler with a 2.5r and when i start it, it starts fine and when i'm holding it, it runs fine, but as soon as the wheels hit the pavement, it goes blaaaauuuu. it has no power. if i feather the throttle it will get up and go and if it hits a bump where the tires lose contact, it will rev up. i think it's the carb but i'm not sure....... opinions?

Clutch, check the clutch. Does the wheel turn as soon as the motor starts?

no, i went through the motor after i took it out of the maxx and it ran fine before i through it in the rusty. i thought maybe something got messed up on the carb cause i didnt go through that

Still sounds like the clutch. Just it just rev and do nothing til nearly full throttle and then went to blast off?

does it have a ball diff? if so you need to tighten it.try that

needs a new shaft bro... the engine has no torque wich means the clutch (hopefuly) is slipping or the crankshaft (worst case senario) is warped causing the engine to kick.

Could also be worn engine bearings.

but why would it run fine in one truck then crap in another?everything on the rusty is in good shape, it's one of my toughest trucks. no ball diff in it though. i still have to go through the carb. i havent even touched it for a long time.

me and paul just went thru this with mine after we got it running, check your clutch. mine wouldn't shift, run awesome when you hung on to it but as soon as it hit the ground, nothing.

mine will sit and idle for a bit, and it will go if i give it little throttle but not if i floor it and if i run it fast, when it slows down it stahls  :cussing:

it's funny, mine ran fine on sunday and then it just went down hill. i switched back to 20% and that helped a lot. after we changed the owb it would idle but could not give it full throttle, set everything back to factory specs and that helped. but i was blowing a lot of fuel out the exhaust so i'm guessing i was a little flooded. paul knows a lot more than me and he is really knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff. if it wasn't for him mine would be sitting in a corner collecting dust.

ya, i know alot about them too, i think i just need to take the time and completely go through the motor and carb. It's just finding the time to do it.

I had the same problem in my 7.5. I ended up putting new clutch springs on and the problem was fixed

My first thought would be that the tuning from one to another is going to be different. when you're going from a MT class to a ST class there is a big difference in weight and gearing and your tune will need to be changed. It probably needs to be richened up a little bit by the sounds of it. Just my $.02

hey guys... i need some help tunning my new rustler.
it's my first nitro and i don't have a lot of engine knowledge.
i'm really happy with it, runs great, but my problem is with the whole tunning thing... since i don't know what i'm doing i'm afraid of doing something wrong and screw it up.
it takes of in neutral... not fast but i doesn't stop... it just rolls.
i apreciate your help with this and any other tips you guys may have.
btw i live in california near sea level
thanks!
